Aira Force, Ullswater

Aira Force is worth a visit, and not just for the the carrot cake and coffee in the National Trust cafe. You will be walking in the footsteps of William Wordsworth and Thomas De Quincey. It was first developed as a tourist attraction by the Howard Family in the eighteenth century. Exotic trees were planted, but nevertheless, it is a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. Pick a quiet time and you may be lucky and see red squirrels.
