Bleaberry and Mountain Ash

You can find bleaberries all over the Lake District, they are a wonderful treat. July and August is the time. In the school holidays as a family we would go to Whinlatter, a favourite haunt. Relatively high, but still close to the road. They make a wonderful pie, served with double cream. Coming across them on a walk is an added bonus.

The Mountain Ash is one of my favourite trees. It is amazing where it clings on too. They can be seen growing out of a crag face. I presume the birds drop the seeds. There are many great specimens all over the district but one of my favourites is in Grains Gill on the way to Esk Hause. We have one in the garden in Keswick keeping off the evil spirits! The birds are very grateful.
