Bowfell

I have probably climbed Bowfell more times when linked to a Bob Graham Round than as a walk in its own right. A clockwise BG approaches it from Rossett Pike and takes a direct line south of Angle Tarn below Hanging Knotts. An anti-clockwise round approaches from Esk Pike via Ore Gap. In bad weather, Ore Gap would also be the preferred clockwise choice, making route-finding easier. Navigation around Bowfell can be tricky and is not helped by the tales of magnetic anomalies. The red soil, in the vicinity of Ore Gap, is the result of a haematite vein in the area.

The image is a result of magnetic anomalies at play.
