Carrock Fell

In my early years Carrock Fell was associated with the New Year’s Day Hunt. Good fox country. I was also interested in the ancient hill fort on the summit. Carrock Mine and the variety of metals, minerals and igneous rocks of which the fell is formed keeps the geologists, mineralogists and archaeologists happy.

For the fell walker the early bouldery slopes give way to a heathery plateau and a grassy summit area.

The elliptical shaped remains of the hill fort and the rich variety of minerals are reflected in the image.
