Cumbria Traverse

This is a south to north, high-level traverse of 21 Lakeland peaks involving over 30 miles and 12000 feet of ascent. It starts at Broughton Mills in Dunnerdale and finishes at the Moot Hall in Keswick. The route complements the east to west line of the Joss Naylor Challenge, but without time limits.

Dave Findell-Hawkins, who I did the Joss Naylor Challenge with, suggested we give this a go, so we did. I was accompanied all the way by my daughter Sarah and son-in-law Phil. A memorable occasion.

With regard to the design, serendipity has a part to play. It’s all based on the number 7. 21 peaks, 3 x 7. 7 participants. I am listed as the 77th person to complete. 7 colours of the rainbow. A stripe for each peak, a colour for each participant, grey for the two road crossings.
