Derwentwater, The Islands

Walking round the lake, viewing it from Catbells, Walla Crag, Latrigg, Skiddaw, and everywhere in-between is something I take for granted. On reflection it must be one of the great vistas of the world. The islands are an integral part of that vista. The four main islands are Derwent, Lord's, St Herbert's and Rampsholme. All with their own histories. Based in Keswick, I have spent many an evening at Friar's Crag reflecting on the day, looking directly onto Lord's Island and admiring the view down the lake. The islands are home to the local wildfowl and in the early evening the cacophony of sound is magical. I have visited them all, but not often. I do have an affection for them.

My image is an acknowledgement of their presence, the colours reflecting their various moods throughout the year.
