Field Boulder Fold, Mungrisdale (NY375294)

I have always liked dry stone sheepfolds. One I particularly like is the Wiley Gill fold, as you come down off Great Calva to the River Caldew. It’s probably over a century old, circular and still in good order.

Another fold I like is rather different. 'The Field Boulder Fold' near Mungrisdale is one of Andy Goldsworthy’s, from the Millenium Sheepfold Project. It’s another circular fold, but one that is protected by piled-up boulders on the outside.

My image is a typographic interpretation of that fold. I visited it recently and it has settled in well. It was interesting to see how various coloured lichens had started to envelop the fold.
