Glaramara

A celebration of one of the most romantic and glamourous names for a mountain in the Lake District. I generally approach it from Stonethwaite, following initially the original route of the Borrowdale Race, up Stanger Gill, taking in Bessyboot, then Glaramara, before going on to Allen Crags and Esk Hause. My return to Stonethwaite is normally via Grains Gill, Stockley Bridge and Seathwaite. In anything but good weather it can be quite challenging and not the soft option the name suggests. Nevertheless the whole fell is worthy of exploration.

For me, the name of a mountain is enough to bring back memories of a lifetime of fell walking and the variety of routes taken in all weathers.
