Haystacks
Haystacks is synonymous with Alfred Wainwright. His ashes are sprinkled nearby at Innonimate Tarn. There is a window dedicated to him in St James' Church Buttermere, which looks up the lake to Haystacks. A circuit of the lake including Haystacks is a pleasant way to spend a day. Choose a nice day as the ground around Haystacks, though wonderful and varied, is not easy in mist. Viewed from Gatesgarth there are five distinct stacks.
I liked the idea of the juxtaposition of the church window and haystacks. On reflection I realised the shapes look like gravestones.
