Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Line

The railway closed in 1973. After some years it was made into a footpath but severe storms in 2015 made much of the path unusable. After a £8 million revamp it was reopened in 2020. The path is approximately a 10k round trip. As a keen birdwatcher a highlight is to catch site of dippers from the numerous crossings of the river. An interesting site on the route is the Bobbin Mill Tunnel which was buried for forty years. It was dug out and incorporated into the path. Its character remains and you can still see enclaves in the walls where workers would crouch when trains went by. One of our regular walks is to take the path to Wescoe and complete a loop to the top of Brundholme. The option then of Latrigg, or the old Brundholme road back to Keswick, either are a delight.
