Red Screes, Kirkstone Pass

I have only ever climbed Red Screes from Kirkstone Pass. In 2011 we did it twice, as it is on the route of the Joss Naylor Challenge. A recce walk and the Challenge itself. My last ascent was in 2016, Day 28 of my Wainwright Challenge. My diary entry reads ‘Better weather in Keswick, cloud down to the car park at Kirkstone Pass, and stayed all day. Struggled to locate Little Hart Crag’.

I remember the damp atmosphere intensified the colours of the slate and scree, which are reflected in my image. It also emphasises the virtually direct ascent.
