Sheep Trods
The image is my design for a herdwick wool rug. It led me for some reason to think about sheep trods, the paths that sheep have created over the centuries on the open fell. When traversing a rough heathery fellside it is always worth looking out for one. It makes the going so much easier. Sheep trods are not shown on maps. I always have a good feeling when I walk them, a foot in the present and the past and a worthy subject.
The image celebrates the herdwick sheep, the 'redding' of tups, and the horizontal nature of sheep trods.
