Sour Milk Gill, Seathwaite

A circuit from Seathwaite going via Base Brown, Green Gable, Great Gable, Sty Head, the Corridor Route, Scafell Pike, Great End, Esk Hause, Grains Gill, Stockley Bridge returning to Seathwaite, starts with the steep climb alongside the intriguingly named Sour Milk Gill. To the right of the gill, spoil heaps from the plumbago mines scatter the fellside.

I like the name so much I chose it for my website. Although the image is based on the Seathwaite gill it could equally apply to the Buttermere gill on the ascent of Red Pike. A third Sour Milk Gill is picked up on the way to Easdale Tarn from Grasmere.

The name is derived from the milky white colour of the waterfalls.
