The Far Eastern Fells

Day 31: a circuit from Patterdale with Pauline and Kathy. A very hot day, hard going over Place Fell. The oversized cairn on Hallin Fell was a surprise, but a highlight of the day was visiting Matterdale Old Church, beautiful in its simplicity. A very enjoyable round. We also included Steel Knotts and Beda Fell.

Day 39: a circuit from Sadgill, Longsleddale. Shipman Knotts, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Branstree, Selside Pike, Tarn Crag and Grey Crag.

Not easily accessed but I like Sadgill, it has a timeless quality. I was intrigued by the stone-built survey posts, relating to the Haweswater Aqueduct, on Branstree and Tarn Crag. A large piece of corroded metal (inner workings) leaning against one of the posts, had amazing sculptural qualities.
